In 2006, the Consulting Unit on Tourism and Biodiversity was created under the roof of the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) with the support of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). It provides consulting services, upon request, to UNWTO Members for the implementation of projects on sustainable tourism planning and biodiversity-based tourism, bringing forward the implementation of the CBD Guidelines on Biodiversity and Tourism Development.
